Supplies: "The Monster Game" (6 three-piece monster puzzles and 1 die to assemble), scissors, Scotch tape or glue stick

Before you begin, cut out the puzzle pieces and the die. Assemble the die and stick the tabs in place with Scotch tape or a glue stick.

Group Activity or Learning Centre for 2 to 6 children. The object of the game is for each player to complete a monster puzzle. Place all the pieces faceup on the table and have the first child roll the die. If it lands on:

  • Part of a monster's body: The child must take a corresponding puzzle piece and place it in front of them. (The pieces are interchangeable, but the children may wish to match the colour of their monster's hands and feet.)
  • A monster: The child can pick a piece of their choice.
  • Candy: The child must skip their turn, as their monster is busy eating candy!

The game ends when all the children have assembled their monster puzzle.

In a cooperative game, have the children take turns rolling the die and work together to complete all the monster puzzles.
In an individual game, mix up all the pieces and invite the child to complete the puzzles or to create silly-looking monsters.
With younger children, place all the puzzle pieces upside down and play without the die. Have the children take turns flipping over a piece and complete the puzzles together.
